Thanks scannerz, the pic is very very helpful.
I know what you mean about the length of the trailer. I had a 13 foot ski boat that i ysed to tow with an austin mini. No problems at all. Then i tried reversing a six foot trailer with an old Peugeot 406 estate. The towing vehicle being longer than the trailer caused me no end of problems Cry. I was told that if the trailer is longer than the towing vehicle things get easier, but life can be quite 'eventful' if the trailer is shorter than the towing vehicle. I certainly found that to be true.
Thanks again.
Regards

The length was also decided by the fact the the longer the lever the lighter the load theory, so the longer length meant that it was lighter to lift onto the tow hitch and less weight on the car.
Didn't you remember this bit Ed.
Or was it just the length of material available, hmmmm

not in this case as the leverage is the back wheels. still lifting the full weight of the trike

Not trying to cause an incident but..........

Pivot at the back wheels. Leverage at the towing bracket thing. Distance from engine to towing bracket longer so mass divided by length of lever.
Check it out with a door.... Try closing an open door by pushing with one finger real close to the hinged edge. Now try doing the same but push on the edge furthest from the hinges, you will find that the second method is easier as the lever is longer.

Yep as Klogan stated to lift the trike at the front wheel was almost impossible, but with the addition of the tow frame it can be lifted with one hand.
I've tried, cause I welded it up for scannerzer  Grin
