Y kingpins had a reputation for cracking even in lighweight motors used for 'trials' .

Spitfire / herald discs bolt on with a bearing change and small spacer. Vitesse GT6 are ( as you discovered ) not straightforward. Likewise you can use Morris Marina discs and also standard 105E drum hubs modified to take discs.

Worth thinking about rims as part of the planning. I'm using 16" Somerset steels on mine which are Ford bolt pattern. Reliant axle will require restudding or adapters to fit

Did I mention that Reliant uses slightly modified Ford 100E steering box so re-usable with T build as well ?

Whilst talking about Reliant back axles , what ratios do they run and what's the difference between an A and B axle for the uninitiated ?

I'm looking forward to seeing this though development, to final build and on-the-road-ness, plus learning some stuff along the way.......... (both how to, and maybe a bit of how-not-to too  Cheesy)

Looks like we'll be needing a couple of early 750 'A' axles then  to cope with gearing of taller wheels.

When original, standard Reliant cars are finally declared extinct, we're gonna get the blame!

loving this idea.... Kev. the Y axle will not be under as much pressure as a trials car when used on the road would it?? don't want the manky one getting hurt!!!

I was watching a Ford Pop front beam on Ebay -started at £3, ended up going for £370! Way out of our budget. Shaun's offer of a 20 quid model Y one is more what we were looking for.
Kev, when you say they had a rep' for cracking kingpins, do you mean the cast knuckle on the end of the beam that the pin turns in? Or the pin itself? Could it be adapted to run Pop pins, or the casting beefed up in some way? My brother Brock has spare Pop spindles & also a Reliant steering box, so we're part way there.
Big Darren & I are off to Nottingham later today to collect the fibreglass bodyshell.

Stress on the front axle should be a lot less than when fitted to a model Y. Might be worth doing a crack detection test before fitting.
