Secretly quite pleased with myself!!!😄

Managed to get all the wiring at the front of the beetle sorted, and connected up, and only had to re-do one wire, when I realised the horn was permanently live!

Maybe not 'standard' wiring colours, but ALL labelled!!

Still chipping away slowly at this, and am almost at the point of getting the outside painted. To try and keep the costs down, I've pretty much painted the complete inside, bit by bit, and finally got round to the front, so the dash got painted, and the re-painted speedo installed.

Hello you.  Wink You do realise every time a Lynx hellio-chopter flies over Loon's workshop we all run outside & shout Cli-i-ive? don't you.  Smiley (he drives them for a living you know).
I've just gone back & re-read this thread. Somehow I'd managed to miss the portrait on the engine casing. Jolly nice work Sir. Love the cream speedo. Did you pull it apart & paint it yourself?

And yes, I pulled the speedo apart, and re-painted it!

I reckon 100 is a bit ambitious though, even when the car was new, let alone with me sat in it!!

Cheesy I've got a 3 1/2 litre V8 in my truck & the speedo only goes up to 80.
Very professionally done matey -I've no idea how you'd paint that -not freehand surely? Letraset style numbers? How do you mask up the lines if it's sprayed? I don't understand! Damn, I wish I was as clever as some people here.  Angry
If I were a paintist Id've been tempted to do something a bit wacky like Stop, Slow, A Bit Faster, Too Fast etc.  Cheesy

Been fighting with door hinges!!

Had a VW forum member over for an hour or so, with his special door hinge pin removal tool, that he said and I quote "I've not found a hinge pin it won't shift"

After an hour and a half, and one pin removed and one more only half out, with it getting dark we admitted defeat!!!

Going to take the hinges off the body, and then drill the rivets in the door now, and then remove and replace the hinge pins on the work bench. Got to be easier right?

Would be, if I could shift the screws holding the hinges to the body!! Tried penetrating oil, and an impact screwdriver, but can now only shift one out of six. Any other ideas please people?

Give the penetrating oil a day to soak through then try again. Failing that its heat and lots of it or drill the screws out.
Marcus is probably the best person to ask.

Penetrating oil, lots of! And an impact driver, or the driver bit in a socket on a ratchet. And persevere with it.

Marcus may not agree but my son-in-law taught me to give the impact driver a first wallop in the direction of tightening the screw/bolt, before starting to try and loosen it.  Worked for me.
