Action Fraud have received an increase in reports and intelligence where elderly victims are being targeted by individuals purporting to be police officers or traffic wardens. The victims are being approached whilst parked in a car park and are told by the suspect that they have parked illegally or broken a speed limit and a photo has been taken of their car for ‘evidence’. Victims are advised that they will face a substantial penalty fine unless they pay a smaller upfront fee immediately. Victims, who opt for paying the smaller penalty, will be directed to a parking meter and asked to enter their card and PIN. These parking meters have been tampered with by the suspect in order to retain the card. Once the victim inserts their card and are asked for their PIN, the victims are shoulder surfed for their PIN by the suspect. Once victims input their PIN, the card is retained by the machine and victims are told by the suspect to seek help from the company who operates the parking meter or their bank. What you need to do If you are suspicious about the authenticity of the fine, do not pay it until you have verified it with your local council. Always shield your PIN from view when using an ATM machine, and never share your PIN with anyone. If your bank card is retained by an ATM machine, contact your bank immediately to inform them. Post by: stinkey on July 05, 2019, 05:21:36 AM Just to mention something to you all...in November 2018..my wife and I parked in an NCP car park ( in the area marked out for disabled drivers) normally I sit in the car waiting for her return? This time I decided to try and go with her 🤔?
On our return we noticed the window sticker with the FINE attached 😡 we saw the attendant and I spoke with him, he was quite helpful and advised me what to try 😉🤔..I took pictures of the machines and signs, not one mention of disabled parking rules and regulations? So once I got home I started researching via Google and YouTube..and my brother gave me some information too.. Basically this is what you have to do...do not contact them at all..ignore every letter they send you, after a while they will be sending warning letters from debt collection agencies 🤬..ignore them..it's private land..it's a big CON..it's now July 2019..😎...but if its COUNCIL land..pay the FINE asap..and I also suggest you research TV licensing..another MASSIVE CON..you DO NOT need to HAVE one? 😉😎👍 Title: Re: Elderly drivers and faked fines. Post by: JayJay on July 07, 2019, 05:42:54 PM Similar thing Stinkey, my Mum had a fine demand after parking at QA Hospital Portsmouth even though her badge and £1.80 ticket were displayed (one price only for blue badges). When she returned to the car there wasn't a ticket regarding a fine on the car, the letter was the first she knew about it. She has received letters practically every month for a year since it happened and has ignored all of them. For the past 6 months, nothing. We both (well, we try to remember) take photos of our badge and relevant ticket whenever we park at the QA now and other places, just in case it happens again. It was all so wrong especially when you think of the worry placed on people who, if they're at the hospital, probably have plenty to worry about anyway.
