Tickets for this usually sell out weeks if not months before, and tickets aren't available on the gate, so if you haven't already got tickets and want to see some of what goes on, its TV time.

ITV4 are doing some progs:
(info from Radio Times)

Mon 12 Sept - 9pm - Goodwood Classic Cars - What its like to race in an Austin A35

Tues 13 Sept - 9pm - Goodwood Revival

Wed 14 Sept - 9pm - Goodwood Revival (further coverage)

http://britishairshows.com/goodwood-revival.html

If you're in the Goodwood neck-of-the-woods.................

The flying programme will begin with a dawn Spitfire flypast at 0800 on Friday and displays by the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane at 1300, followed by the Blenheim, in its Goodwood debut, with either a Spitfire or a Mustang.

The Saturday programme will be the same, except that the dawn patrol will be at 0830.

On Sunday the dawn patrol will be at 0845 and at 1320 there will be a display by 2 BBMF Spitfires, a BBMF Hurricane, the Blenheim and the Old Flying Machine Company's Spitfire and Mustang.

2016 was the 19th running of the Goodwood Revival.

The race circuit closed in 1966 when the engine size of Grand Prix cars went from 1.5L to 3.0L, and it was felt the race circuit wasn't suited to this increase in power/speed.

The Revival was brought about to allow racing to take place using vehicles (cars & motorcycles) the like of which had raced around the peri-track circuit of the grass airfield when the track was open, which is why all the competition entrants are of a certain age.

In keeping with the theme, all vehicles within the perimeter of the race track, except those with a safety-related purpose (fire, medics etc) are pre 1966. There's even a free tractor-shuttle going round the track with, you've guessed it, old tractors.

Access to the completion/race/parade/demo vehicles is amazing, as basically none of the completion stuff is "roped off".

At the first Revival, there was a field outside of the race track that was for parking of pre 66 vehicles, the field now houses a fun fair, trade displays, and it appears the cut-off age for parking has changed to pre 1976 (guessing a rolling "Historic Vehicle" / free road tax cut-off)

This is how the Goodwood website describes the event - The smell of engines mingles with the roar of iconic race cars at Goodwood Revival, a 3 day September festival celebrating the halcyon days of motor racing.

So since smelleyvision hasn't been invented, for those that weren't there it'll have to be video footage without the smell of R....................

Some of the racing motorcycle on their paddock being prepped.

Bike in the foreground is a 1926 Brough Superior, behind are a three Rudges circa 1933, all from the age of girder forks.

The St Mary's Trophy Race Pt1 on a wet Saturday. (Pt2 was the following day)

Close racing all through the field of around 30 cars with loads of overtaking and close-fought battles  ;D

All cars are A30 or A35 saloons and mechanically identical (sealed/tagged engines & gearboxes, and parts from specific approved suppliers to a certain spec)

The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy runs a race on the Saturday and another on the Sunday.
Part way through each race there's a rider change, so when the victors do their parade lap, the single seat race bikes get a bit cosy with both riders on board.

This is Glen English with John McGuinness pillion - note the big cigar that's given to the podium riders.
