Nope! It didnt work! 2 up, down the bypass, 45/50 mph,the temp needle climbs to 110 degs.So we stop, and I find the fan , mounted on front of rad is pulling air instead of pushing!!. I swap the wires round to make it push through the rad, by this time temp has dropped a bit, and off we go.temp gauge rises,, so we head home.No pics im afraid, who wants to see a puddle of water under the trike,? Lol. After Craigs success im going to try a larger fan, as the one im running is a bike one.

Reversing the fan wires may not work, I tried all ways until pointed out to me: pull the blade off the motor and put it on back to front, then try, mine was/is a great success. Seems the blades are pitched/handed slightly . Worth a try before you spend cash.

Hmmm...good point.i have seen on some ads for fans advertised as push or pull, that blade needs reversing.I'll go out there in a bit to have a look.

Just pulled the fan blades off, but cant fit reversed as the centre boss is a strange shape,BUT..looking closely at the blades, they are curved, which if the whole blade could be turned round , the air would be 'scooped' by each blade toward the rad.Never noticed this in the past, as I only seem to have dealt with flat bladed fans. What I cant fathom though, is that a Reliant has all that bodywork , grille etc shielding the rad/blocking air flow, plus theres a engine driven fan about 1 or 2 inches from the rad, and it keeps cool! Compare that to a trike..rad in airflow, little to no obstruction, and generally a 12v fan mounted right up to rad, and it overheats!!

Sorry it didn't go well Rod. Regarding air flow Reliant vs trike, have you actually looked to see how much of the rad you can see at wheel level, from in front of your trike. A Mini rad core is only 10" wide, but I bet that your front wheel and forks are about the same width. At speed the front end will push the air away to the sides creating either a dead spot or a turbulent area in front of the rad. On Minis they ended up with a pretty big 11 bladed fan set into a close fitting cowl. I fitted an 8" push fan and it seems to cope.

I never rely on the reading on the gauge and always check the water temp with a cooks thermometer or one of those new fangled infra red thingmajigs . . .

Got one of the digital thingys, but havent checked it against gauge.Just comparing the different set ups. Running 15's on low profiles, I think. If there is turbulence, or blocking of the airflow, surely thats about the same as the Reliant bodywork obstructing.fwiw, I did try a scoop effect round the rad a while back.
It will sit idleing and pootle around town, or if I keep speed to say 35/40 with 2 up the temp wont climb. Therefore my thinking is that it needs more cooling, just like a car towing a caravan does as it puts the engine under load.

With your 15" low profiles that's about 75mm larger diameter wheels than the standard reliant. may be ok at low speeds as in town but two up at high speed may just be putting a bit more strain on the engine ? try running on smaller wheels
