Title: dobbers cb250 g5
Post by: dobber on July 25, 2011, 01:57:43 PM
started this a couple of year back. was given to me by a guy who parked it in a shed 27 year ago when his dad died. came with original key. could tell which side was near the broken window by the rust.

had the lump shot blasted then vapor blasted. cut foamboard for the exhaust and inlet ports and bolted on for blasting. put grease inside so if anything got thru it would stick in it.

Isn't that a sweet little thing.  :)  These were the sort of bikes I grew up riding as a teenager, so never thought of them as classics, but I guess they're getting rarer now. Very nice mate.
I think I've got several sets of big chrome 70s/80s Jap indicators, with stalks, in the shed. No idea what they're from but you're welcome to some if they'll help.

think thats why i did it mm.. reminded me of my first   :big bike:  which is what we thought they were after moving on from the fs1e.   that and the fact that it was given to me when i was bored..

sorted the original seat strap out. put a coach bolt thru to hold the strap into the mounting bracket. cant recall what  fitting was before. presume it was riveted. ground the nut right down so doesn't cut in to the vinyl seat

Definitely a labour of love. Hope you're going to put some serious mileage on it when it's finished.

it will stand in line with other 9 machines i guess. have a rider policy which covers me for 4 bikes, sorn the others. use the vn for long trips, bandit for a blast to coast, drz for a crazy blast and the 4th can be swapped about. dont ride as much as i would like tho... labour of love, but beats that tv hands down., having said that i would like to see that vw campervan program,,

got the original stems chromed and looked for replacement heads but was told by the chromer that the heads are made of monkey metal as he calls it. turns out there an alloy and he just polished them. was dubious but final result was amazing

looks better for them,  just need a plate that fits the era. had the original one powdered ready for white numbers but turns out a 74 has to have the yellow one.  any one know if it would have been the pressed one back then.
