Dave_Postie & I had a little poke about at the wiring on the freebie bike today.
What a complete nightmare! Masses & masses of the stuff. Got no idea what half of it does. Little sealed black boxes all over the place -why would you need a black box in the wires leading to the back light? Sensors for just about everything too. It's further complicated by being electronic ignition & has two ignitor boxes, plus a computer/trip gizzmo on the bars. Maybe that's why it was free!
I'd like to strip the lot out & start again with a far simpler loom, but got no idea which black boxes & ancillaries we'd need in order for the thing to still run. Does anyone know where I can download a wiring diagram for a 1984, (B reg), Honda VF750SC?
For some reason someone's fitted an extra starter solenoid, presumably cos the original packed up, but we're not sure which is the duff one! By trying various combinations of wires with a set of jump leads & a car battery we could turn it over, so at least it's not seized & the starter motor works, but no spark at all & no life from any of the handlebar switches.
Can anyone draw us a an idiot proof diagram of the components of an electronic ignition system & which wires connect to which black boxes?

A happy customer I hope? Always nice to know they've made it safely -you know what those bloody Posties are like.
Thanks for the info mate. I'll have a browse of that lot tomorrow when I'm more awake.
