So now to bolt it together.......I guess this is part of the reason it was a non runner.
This is the nut that holds the mag on, it screws on the shaft and in turn has a bolt that screws into it, a bolt thats broken.

Next to go on is the cover plate, this stops all manner of crap from interfering with the ignition bits, I`ll shine it up first  Wink

And so that is that side, for now. I can use that broken bolt/nut to start the engine, when i know it runs i`ll sort a replacement and fit the rope pull.
Next job will be sorting out the fuel supply and throttle controls.

A plastic cap filled with gauze that clips onto the bottom of the carb

The exhaust in place. I`ll clean this up too and it may get a coat of heatproof black paint.

That's a very cute little engine Tim. I've never really studied stationary engines in detail, but all the basics of any motor are there aren't they, just in miniature. Nice little weekend restoration projects when you just fancy a bit of a tinker.  Smiley

They are good fun and a source of great frustration when you do all the work and they still refuse to run  Grin
I like the feeling of nostalga they give me, (although this one is late 60`s) its like harping back to the `good old days`, the days of steam and horse power.

hi  they are good little engine,s    there must be around 20 at home of the various models,, youre,s is an early to mid seventy,s model  because it had the ,,plastic,, govenor  gear
the manufacturing date is stamped on the flywheel,, asuming that the flywheel is original..

1 reason they can be awefull starters  and erratic runners is the carb to inlet joint ,,, the carb flange is  ,,prone,,to warping..

best to part the joint ,,clean well ,,then check it with a good straight edge ,, and if needs be level it up carefully with a file ,

also be carefull ressetting the govenor ,,arm,, on its ,,pinch,,, bolt as the tend to over rev  ,,go,, berserk,, and have even been known  to self  ,,,,,,,,,,destruct,,,, Embarrassed Embarrassed

if you need any parts get in touch and i,ll have a look through all the boxes of ,,used,, bits.   i,v got a fair amount of new small engine parts  but the most popular  villiers stuff is running out at home now..
