The second gear problem was to do with the dogs on the gear cogs not engaging properly if you go on the xs1100 site there's plenty of info on what you can do to fix it
I bought a compleat gearbox from America for the wife's trike it's better but still clunky it's just a typical xs  Cheesy

As for over reving try spraying brake clutch cleaner over the engine to carb rubbers whilst running one at a time if it cures it its got a crack/leak you can get a set from yam parts on the net

Just remembered some peeps coat them in silicon or evostick type glue to solve the problem it sometimes works but looks s**te

I tried that on mine and couldn't get it to seal, plus like you say it looks s**te. Nice shiney new rubbers sorted mine but wasnt sure if they were still readily available. Zacs is just down on power under load now though, think my rubbers cause erratic running/tickover. Must be 20 years ago though so anything I may think is suspect Sad

cheers all for your replys, but been messing with this again today and solved nothing it just is not my field think vmax1200 would be best taking it off the road untill he can afford to pay some one whos knows what there doing  Smiley

ok we decided to take the carbs to be clean proply, trike is now ruining like a dream,big thanks to all for your input advice and suggestions from vmax1200 and myself cheers  Smiley
