Hi Guys, can anyone help with this topic please. I'm using a reliant rear axle on the 535 trike and have to fit brake shoes, shaft seals and diff seal. The brake shoes were not fitted when I got the axle so I don't know how to fit the new ones. I have never fitted shaft seals or diff seals. Has anyone got any info to help me. Thanks regards K

Where did that 13mm spanner go then?

I'm assuming you haven't got a Haynes manual for the Reliant? I've got the whole thing copied onto disc. Probably easier to post you a copy than try & explain it here. The seals are just a matter of hooking the old ones out with a well placed screwdriver & a couple of whacks with an 'ammer. Then tap the new ones back in. Grease them so they slip in easier & use a large socket & a hammer to tap them in nice & squarely. The seal in the nose of the diff, behind the propshaft flange, is a weak point on Reliants -they always seem to leak & spray oil all over the place. Use a big screwdriver across the wheelstuds to stop the diff gears turning then undo the centre nut of the flange. The seal can then be prised out & replaced. If you've got the whole axle apart & the diff casings seperated. there's a crushable collar behind the prop flange that's supposed to be replaced each time you undo that centre nut, but I've never bothered. Brake shoes. The shoe retaining springs that link the shoes together can be a bugger to get hooked in place, but otherwise it's pretty starightforward. PM me your address if you need a copy of the Haynes disc. Same for anyone else who wants it.

A million what exactly? Cakes? No problem. Wasn't scanned in by me. Ska Man originally found it somewhere on the 'net, but comes in handy.

Jeez! They look even less appetising than real snails! What sick mind came up with that combo?
