Title: A new phunkie project
Post by: phunkie hiboy on July 05, 2013, 07:33:18 PM
I thought I'd put this in here, after all it is a trike!!  ;)

Anyone remember this? A little purchase 18 ish months ago at Beaulieu. For Sues eldest grand daughter.

Well, with said granddaughters birthday coming up in August, I thought that I ought to do something about getting it into some order, like I haven’t enough to do!!
Stripped it all down, so it looked like this.

And took to a local powder coaters ……………………. http://www.aurorapowdercoating.co.uk/

Sand blasted, one coat of silver, one coat of red candy, one coat of clear and two weeks later (today) collected all the parts and they now look like this.

Picture doesn’t really give the paint job justice. Next thing to do is deliver it to Eddie Wimble for some lettering and striping before assembly. This might take a while!!

Ed Wimble, the T bucket builder?! That's gonna be one seriously cool ride!
I've seen these for sale in posh toy shops & always loved the art deco styling. Reminds me of 50s sci fi drawings.
I had no idea you could get translucent powder coat.

Yes, Mr Ed, been a buddy for over 45 years now. The originals date from the late '30s and sell for between $1500 and $3000. I didn't know about the candy powder coat 'till I saw some one else have some done, a different colour, and I went and asked about it.

Well here we are, at the end of another project. Deadline was next Friday (30th), Scarlett Roses’ birthday (Sues #1 granddaughter).
We got it back from Eddies and assembled it back together with some new parts imported from the manufactures. We made a seat pad insert that bolts to the seat, and covered it with cream vinyl. So just a few photos of the finished article.

That's one very lucky little girl!
What a fabulous present. Almost too good to play with. That'll be the stuff of fond childhood memories in years to come.
Lovely work, as always Chris.

You'll have to wait and see, got a couple of things in the pipe line. Might have to start a "toys" thread!! Then there's always the Met.

Just the normal large & small sizes I'm afraid Chris, but I can ask Bob the merchandise guy if he can print you some. How small do you need?

just some thing that's in scale with the size of the trike. I'll have a think on size, later and let you know.
