This is a unique and world renowned event, worth saving the pennies for. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/what-is-revival/what-is-revival.aspxLink to a previous thread with photos http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=9670.0The cost of going to Goodwood's Revival isn't cheap, Friday 2011 was £36 (and Friday is £36 for 2012), but we spent 11 hours at the circuit, saw loads and loads of static displays of cars and aeroplanes, viewed the millions upon millions of pounds worth of racing machinery being given a serious thrashing around the track (so much so that there were a couple of very costly crashes as these drivers are out there being pretty serious), and must have seen about 10 take offs and landings (along with their displays) of Spitfires in twos or threes, as there were about 10 on the airfield So that works out at below £3.30 an hour....... and as we left at 7pm, two Spits took off and gave a flying display over the car parks, now you don't often get that!

Supercharged V16 Auto Union and others including Mercedes W125 to run a Revival: ( Check the videos at end of this post - what a noise!!!!!!! ) Taken from the Goodwood website http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/news-and-coverage/articles/silver-arrow-racers.aspxFor the first time since the 1930s, the legendary pre-war ‘Silver Arrows’ Grand Prix cars will be reunited on-track at the 2012 Goodwood Revival (September 14-16), marking the 75th anniversary of their first appearance in the UK.
The arrival of Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union on the Grand Prix scene in 1934 heralded arguably the sport’s most magnificent era. In the years leading up to World War Two, the German rivals utterly dominated top level motor racing, producing a series of technological masterpieces that rewrote the record books and created legends of the daredevils who drove them.
By 1937, when the cars raced in the UK for the first time at the Donington Grand Prix, power outputs were approaching 600bhp – a level that would not be equalled in Grand Prix racing until the turbo era of the 1980s. Such was the might and majesty of the Silver Arrows, that the English crowd – more accustomed to watching Rileys, MGs and ERAs with less than half the power of the German cars – were rendered utterly speechless.
With the full support of Mercedes-Benz Classic and Audi Tradition, the 2012 Goodwood Revival will recreate the spirit of that momentous day in September 1937, with a unique demonstration of as many as ten of these fabulous machines, including examples of the Mercedes-Benz W25, W125, W154 and W165, and Auto Union Type C, Type D and Type D ‘Doppel Kompressor’.
Piloted by experienced, world-famous drivers, the Silver Arrows will stage a breathtaking demonstration on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, alongside examples of the British and Continental ‘cannon fodder’ that raced against them in period – providing all the spectacle of a real race, but without risk to these priceless and irreplaceable pieces of motor sport history.
Demonstrations by individual Silver Arrows are an impressive sight, and this will be the first time that so many of these mighty machines have been driven together at speed since the Belgrade Grand Prix, on 3 September 1939 – the day WWII broke out. As such, it will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience – arguably the most momentous occasion in the history of historic motor sport – and will make the 2012 Goodwood Revival a must-attend event for all motor sport enthusiasts.
To complete this incredible spectacle, the cars will all be housed in an authentic recreation of the pits from the Bremgarten circuit in Switzerland. Supported by UBS, the pit scene will include period transporters, tools and equipment, to create a truly remarkable display. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myxMudtFX6ghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oXV5AUH3sQhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWKEp4JBQqo

Quite common on hill-climb cars of the period, more 'contact patch'. Here's an Alta at Goodwood (seen it at Brighton like this a couple of times too)
