8 gang is great i`d use 25mm2 cable from the solenoid to the starter , it`s 10mm OD (as near as dam it) and 170amp rating. For the alternator, 16mm2 will be fine, it`s 7.5mm OD with a 110amp rating. You may wanna pick up a standard 30amp 4 pin relay while you`re there, for the starting circuit.

Perhaps for your amusement Mr.T, and to show how much motorcycle and car 'elektrikery' have advanced, yeah, right!! check out the two wiring diags. attached, both early '50's BSA and Standard, and both from vehicles previously owned by myself in the later '50's, and copied from handbooks I bought at the time of ownership, and which are still on my bookshelf, priced at 6/- and 7/6,respectively!.....hey ho, past times, mutter...mutter.....Nadolig Llawen pawb, Morrag

A far simpler time in lot`s of ways Morrag, if not a little before my time. Information such as that is priceless, i only wish i`d realised that when starting out tinkering with automobiles!

set the fuse box and old solonoid up on a bita timber, got the frame and engine earthed and to the battery, cable from starter to solonoid, then solonoid to battery. starting with the kill switch, start button and front brake light. 6 pin connector, brown wire and green/yellow wires are brake light red/thick white red/thin white black blue/white the two red and white have continuity when kill switch on run. held the start button in and doesnt make any difference to continuity on any wires.
ignition has thick red and thick blue/brown wire , continuity when ignition on other wires are in a four block conector blue/red blue/white blue blue/black ignition has on off and park setting. can start here and try move a bit at a time.

Small spade is the warning light, other 2 are output. The output terminals are connected internally so doesn`t matter which you use.

Brake Light Switch:- Brown wire is in, Green/Yellow is out. Red / thick White :- Feed to fusebox Red / thin White :- Feed to ignition coil Black :- Earth Blue / White :- Feed to starter solenoid

Thick Red :- is feed in from the Fusebox (run a lead from the battery to this fuse) Blue / Brown : - feed back to fusebox Blue / Red :- feed to rear light and front auxiliary lights Blue / White :- POSSIBLY feed to digital clock Blue :- feed to headlamp switch and idiot lights Blue / Black :- Not sure on the other 1 mate

off in garage now to make a start. the one that feeds the coil tbone, will it be strong enough for the reliant coil[ guess a sparks a spark] and the one you said "feed to fuse box" i just put a wire from battery to fuse box and up to the red and thick white. how many roughly, of the fuses want to be live from the battery, will link them up now.. really appreciate this.

At the moment, you only need 1 live fuse, the thick Red one. attach a lead from the battery to one side of the fuse and the Red wire to the other side.
Run the thick Red / White to one side of the second fuse and the thick Blue / Brown wire to the other side of the second fuse.
