Not auto related in any way, but some beautifully shot & very dramatic photos of last week's forest fires in Humboldt, California. Really brings home how devastating it must be to lose all you own that way & how lucky we are not to suffer such fires over here very often. Thanks to Brock for the link.

Lucy and Simon took some phots of a scrubland fire near Tarifa where they're staying at present - they saw helicopters with the bags of water and watched planes scooping up water from the sea (no pics of those for some reason) - nothing like the Canadian fire, this one was apparently doused before any damage was done to houses.

Attaching a pic of my neck of the woods, shot yesterday. A little too close for comfort, my place is crudely circled in pic. Temporarily out of danger, a wind shift could change that fairly quick...

A little worrying, certainly!

See what you meant when you said it was out in the wilds.

Were you running away when you took that -or is that fence the end of your backyard?!

No, I'm no land baron! Just a little spot on the mountain, even much smaller than the circle. Out in the sticks though, Gran!

This fire raged and is now 3rd biggest single fire in Calif at this time, fire line is now 18 miles/29 kilometers long. It was between 2 1/2 and 3 miles away from my home in that pic, as only 10,000 to 15,000 feet! Now the fire has grown to over 15,000 acres, about 61 square kilometers, but I'm out of danger.

Christ I hope the wind doesn't change. Glad to hear you and your home/family are ok.

I can just imagine you stood at your door, puffing with all your might, trying to turn the direction of the flames!
