Hiya.
I'd love to say Taz's Charger & my Pop, but it'd be a big fat fib. Next year, promise -although I think I said that last year too.
We'll definitely be there but just spectating in the daily.

The Romsey classic meet's spread across several public carparks in Romsey town centre Bobbi. So it's usually a matter of grabbing a spare space, while leaving room for the show vehicles. Being a Bank Holiday, the carparks are free, though Mr B will be shaking a donation bucket at you.  :)
Taz & I plan to get there mid morning & leave by around 1pm, (got a family get-together to go to).
It's a lovely friendly meet with all sorts of classic & custom bikes, cars & trucks turning up.
Come along & blow the post Christmas cobwebs away.

Hi BikerGran, if you head for ALMA ROAD on the A3057 and park in the council / Waitrose car park. Walk towards Waitrose front doors, then thru the parade of shops beyond those front doors, turn left into LATIMER Street. When ROMSEY HARDWARE is on your left cross the road and up alley way between Nationwide & Ladbrokes and you will be there, a total of about 300 yds. Parking is in great demand on the day as there is NO public parking in the 3 show car parks so I would recommend an earlyish arrival. Hope that helps.

Sadly I dissagree your no  80s or 90s ruling as some stuff from then is getting rare now and if we are going to attract young enthusiast to our hobby then you should cater for them. But its your party... soooo  Wickham it is ! ( for the record I own vehicles from the 50s 60s and 90s) and wonder would you turn away a Ford RS200 from the 80,s away ?

My Reply:-

Mr Stevens, if you had bothered to read the website and the fact that Romsey is a small town not a city, you will have read that we have limited space for approximately 4 - 500 cars and that I have already increased the classification year from 1973 - 1976 but space restricts us from doing so any further. I do feel 1893 - 1976 is quite a spread of vehicle years and that that 83 years probably holds a lot more interesting vehicles than the short time period you are splitting hairs over.
Enjoy Wickham, and if you do not enjoy that, can I suggest you start your own free admission to all show for post 1976 cars, spend hours working on it from May onwards each year, throw your own money at it for ten years ..................... only to have someone with say a 58 Buick get arssy with YOU on Christmas Eve by not liking YOUR "party" criteria.

Brooklands has a gathering on New Years day, they're age criteria, pre 1973.... - so you're in good company!

All the folks who'll be there on the day will show you how worthwhile it is  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

We love your show. There's always a great atmosphere -very friendly, laid back & enjoyable. More importantly, you're raising a lot of money for good causes. It's something to be very proud of. Every show has it's own unique "flavour" & it's great to see so many vintage machines being used & enjoyed as they should be. Owners & spectators alike smile, so you must be doing something right.
I know we're not quite in the same league here, but we know just how much hard work goes in behind the scenes to organise anything that involves motivating people to get off their bums & take part. There'll always be idiots out there with nothing better to do than criticise the efforts of others, while doing bugger all themselves.
As a humble punter I can honestly say I genuinely look forward to the Romsey Boxing Day meet. It's become part of my Christmas celebrations.
Keep doing what you're doing & don't change a thing!
Taz & I will come & find you & give you a hug! -well, Taz probably will anyway.

As always, a fantastic turn out of both vehicles & spectators. After the excesses of Christmas Day I guess everyone's ready for some fresh air & the Romsey meet's an ideal excuse to stretch the legs & catch up with old friends. Nice to see a few forum members & to finally say Hi to Steve, (Mr B the barber), organiser of the whole event. We see him every year, marshalling traffic & trying to bring some semblance of order to the motoring chaos, but have never actually introduced ourselves before.

Almost didn't recognise it stripped of all it's chrome. I'm assuming there's a rolling restoration underway, but have to admit, I kinda like it like this.

Didn't see him about. After a couple of lousy years in his domestic life, he decided to sell the Roadrunner. It was up for sale again today by the new owner. Yours for 18 grand.

Calvin brought along his awesome cab-over Chevy truck, today toting his Harley flat tracker.

Think you'll find its a circa 1955 Kurtis 500 S / Kurtis Kraft 500 S from the good ol' US of A............ seem to remember seeing one racing at the Goodwood Revival not long ago. Cool eh?  ;)

Frank Kurtis designed and built midget cars, quarter-midgets, sports cars, sprint cars, Indy cars, and Formula One cars, so to say this car has pedigree may be a bit of an understatement.............

That's the thing- there's so many vehicles coming & going that you could walk right past something truly outstanding & almost not notice it.
Fortunately. through the magic of photografficiness & the interweb, we can study them at our leisure later.

Thanks Steve (mrbthebarber) for a brilliant event. It is the third year I have attended and the turn out this year was fantastic. Loads of people I spoke to (including those who didn't have a car themselves but turned up to see the ones on show) said how good it was and it was nice to see such variation. Loads said how friendly everyone was.

I am sorry you had some hassle before and during the event but even though it is upsetting,  please remember they are totally outnumbered by those folk who really enjoyed themselves. Congratulations on raising a decent sum yet again for prostate cancer and I am sure the charity appreciates the work you put into organising this event. I am sure it is only a tiny minority who think such an enjoyable and well marshalled event happens all by itself.

Well done to you and your team and don't even consider not having one next year, otherwise I will have to eat all my Christmas cake myself!

Thank you JayJay and everyone on here for the kind words regards the event and those aimed at myself also. After having 2 or 3 years of coming away from it unhappy due to the aggro and abuse, I think this year the message finally got across in the main and a good time was had by all. will know that it was an emotional start to the day for me and a tough day but you guys who came up to me on the day and those since via email, through our comments page on the site or on great forums like this have both really made me smile and at times brought a tear to my eye, such has been the kindness shown, THANK YOU. My faith in human nature AND the event has been restored, I am still buzzing from it, I still cannot believe we had 6 -700 cars head to Romsey that day and I think I saw less of my show this year than I ever have due to running around trying to MAKE spaces for cars!! My sincere apologies to anyone ( in an eligible car ) that we had to turn away but I think you most probably understood & I do hope you parked elsewhere and still came along and joined in the fun.
After viewing this thread, I can see why everyone was so excited about this year's meet, Jeez we had some variety there didn't we!  :-)   :-)   :-)   I saw so little of it and viewing these pics has been just great. I am looking for good cars / bikes & people shots to put on the website and possibly send out to magazines for inclusion. There's certainly a lot here I'd like to use, so if you want to share them with me please send asap to mrbthebarber@yahoo.co.uk  and I will most certainly put some up on the website with a name check. With the amount of people milling around every vehicle, it was impossible to grab more than a quick snapshot of anything, then just as it began to thin out a little, Taz & I had to leave to go visit her relatives for dinner. I had an identical 1966 Triumph to this when I was 19, but mine was fitted with a later 750 Bonny engine.

 :-\ Have just heard a little rumour that this could have been the last time for the show, due to people laying down rubber when leaving. The organisers are worried that someone may get hurt. Does anyone know different ?

Never quite seen the point of burnouts -what does it prove? That your car's got lousy traction?
Tyres are expensive enough already, without scrubbing a few hundred miles of tread off them. And have you ever tried to clean molten rubber off paintwork?
I've emailed Steve, the show's organiser, for a definitive answer. Hopefully not true cos it's one of my favourite meets.

Hi, an ABSOLUTE unfounded rumour I can assure you all. Yes burnouts worry me regards getting trouble from the Police or Council who kindly let me have exclusive use of two of the three car parks we use ( so please STOP them guys ) but there is NO TRUTH WHATSOEVER to this rumour and I will be back parking loads of excellent vehicles again  Boxing Day 2012 rest assured.

There ya go. I love the Romsey meet. Mr B works his socks off to bring this event to the masses every year. I doubt Joe Public realises just how much behind the scenes work goes into it -the smoother an event runs, the less you notice the organisation behind it -but those who take part love it.
So keep up the good work Steve & we'll definitely see you there again next time.  ;D
