Hiya Mr T. I'll check with t'missus -the barn's right in the middle of her stable area, so she's onsite all day.

Video clip of a '69 Charger like Taz's. The car chase from "Death Proof" -a very violent Tarrantino film. Kurt Russell's driving the black Dodge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2kAcQgBplk&feature=related

We're in the process of ordering more parts from our friends at Jack's Autos in New Jersey, Americashire at the moment. Might be delayed a little though, due to the 21 inches of snow they got last night!

Spent a couple of hours yesterday cursing & swearing at Taz's dashboard. I was trying to prise off the padded strip along the front edge. It's bright blue & we want it in black. Checked the price of a new one from the States -180 quid! Plus shipping costs, plus Customs charges & VAT. So if I could get the damn thing off we could take it to an auto upholsterer & see if they could recover it for us. The 40 year old vinyl & foam was so brittle it just crumbled under my fingers as I fought with it. Eventually I took it with me to Loony's workshop, where he soon found it was held with half a dozen screws tucked under the back of the dash. Bugger. You can see the original metallic blue of the car here, as well as the banana yellow it was later painted.

Took the dash pad to Mike Simms, an upholsterer who works from home in Basingstoke, Hants, today. He covered my last trike saddle for me a couple of years ago. Says he can recover it in black leather for 40 quid. It'll be ready next week.

I rather hope so Gaz! There's a couple of bits of non descript foam rubber stuck under the dash on the drivers side, where you're knees would be. Presumably they were also covered at some point, but we've got no reference photos of that, so might have to run without them until we can check another Charger. The dash itself is pretty tatty. Not sure it'd survive being shot blasted. The front corner on one side, tucked down by the windscreen, needs repairing as it's rusted away. Various trim panels were covered in black vinyl, so will need re-doing. That might include the glove box lid, can't remember. The interior of the glove box was just cardboard & long since disappeared, but reproductions are available. Strangely, the box lid opens upwards & has a killer spring on it -I can see us opening it while we're driving along & catapaulting the contents all over the car!

More lethal than novel I think. Good job Taz will be driving -she drinks gallons of filling station coffee -wouldn't want to be holding a cupful when you open that lid or you'd end up wearing it. Had a call from Mike the upholsterer this morning. Dash pad's done. What?! You said it'd be next week! Apparently a customer cancelled a job cos his stuff wasn't ready in time to be covered, so he had some free time. So less than 24 hours later, we have a freshly covered black leather dash pad. As I was going back there, I dropped off the seat frames for my Ford Pop project. He's going to make some seat bases for them & cover them with material from an old leather Volvo seat Loony had knocking about.
