Nipped out for an hour this evening to watch the "Nightglow" display in the local park.
Basingstoke has a lousy public image but they actually put on all sorts of events each year. This weekend sees the annual hot air balloon festival. Mass launches take place at 6am & 6pm from the Memorial Park, right in the centre of the town. The festival kicked off tonight, (Friday), with a 10pm display known as "Nightglow". It's basically flames & fireworks, set to music, with a dozen tethered balloons performing synchronised burns amongst billowing coloured smoke & booming mortars & rockets. Last year was War of the Worlds, the year before was Fire Starter by The Prodigy. This time they did a selection of action movie themes, starting with The Chemical Brothers' version of Mission Impossible, followed by the James Bond theme etc, with green lazer images of cross hairs sweeping across the woods that form a backdrop to the balloons.
The display only lasts 20 minutes or so but it's quite impressive.

Trying to take action shots with a digital camera's a bloomin' nightmare. There's such a long delay between pressing the button & it taking the picture that half the time you miss the action completely. Had to listen for the launch of a rocket or the burst of flame from a balloon burner then guess how long it'd be before the sky lit up.
Glad someone appreciates the effort! Supposed to be a nice day tomorrow -why not nip up & watch the 6am Sunday morning mass launch?

Hurry up & retire Bobbi. You've got too much to do to waste time working!
