Perhaps the site has become an international star. 67 online at 4 am ! Huh
Or has it become a clubbers craze. Leave the club stoned at 2 am, get a kebab, then a taxi home to look at weird cool stuff on MMM  Cheesy

We get a lot of fake forum membership applications, usually linked to porn sites or advertising spam. They're automated "Spambot" programmes that roam the 'net looking for websites with vulnerable software & trying to hack them. That's how we were caught out a couple of years ago. We used to allow automatic membership to anyone that applied, but now I check every one.
I've got a list of over 200 suspect applications from this year alone. If your name's on the list, you ain't coming in. Not worth the risk.
So those extra visitors may be sneaky little Spambots looking for a way in. I'd like to think we've got a bunch of new followers in a different time zone though.  Smiley

I have mentioned the site to quite a few people recently and the name does tend to stick in people's minds.  We also had a lot of interest at Basingstoke so people could still be popping in but don't want to sign up.

The other answer could be my Mother.  Embarrassed  She is just coming up to a year of having access to the Internet. The past nine months have been on a smartphone but for about six weeks she has had a tablet. I noticed before now that she has loads of tabs open at one go and if perchance she has MMM open in one tab and then opens it again in another tab, then I believe this will show up as two guests. This could be true of any guest so that could push the numbers up.

Good question. The forum should be counting IP addresses, (your computer's "postcode"), so if you log in 6 times it should only count it as 1 address, but there's no guarantee it does.

Even that can skew.
I log in from home, work and the phone, all having their own IP
Saying that, the IP on the phone will prolly change every time I connect.

This is the busiest forum I visit - most forums are dying if not dead, but this one keeps going cheerfully along, it's great!

We don't know any better Bobbi. If the end of the World comes, someone might mention they heard something about it 3 months later. Blissfully ignorant, that's us.  Tongue
