Mr Lunatic, BayChimp, Tom & I trundled up to the city yesterday for the 3rd Bike Shed MCC show, held at Tobacco Dock, the old Customs & Excise warehouse, next to the Tower of London.
The Bike Shed guys are a very cool bunch -part of the new wave of "Hipster" bikers. They love their bikes just as much & appreciate the history of old machines & the craftsmanship that goes into a custom build, but they're more cappuccinos & coiffured beards than black leather & bandanas. Nothing wrong with that at all. It makes a refreshing change & they certainly organise a great event. It's more like an art exhibition than a traditional show, with bike builders invited to show their machines in the industrial setting of the old warehouse complex, now cleaned up & filled with lots of glass walled cubicles set on different floor levels, each holding half a dozen bikes, (around 150 in total), assorted traders & lots of bike related artwork. Some nice ideas like last year's bike film shows, set up in a darkened corridor with a line of leather sofas to laze on with a beer while you watched & this year's picnic area in the open courtyard within the building, complete with astro turf & picnic hampers & wooden crates to sit on, plus a cigar lounge.
The bar & food vendors were a bit pricey, but then, it's right in the heart of the city so no great surprise, (we nipped round the corner to the local McDonalds), but there was a stand selling a mug of Yorkshire tea & a biscuit for a quid, so something for those on a budget like us. The venue & the "beautiful People" of London's cool set really make this show, but there were some great bikes with a lot of work put into the tiniest details. Lots of ideas to pinch for your own builds.
This year there was under cover parking for the many who rode their bikes across the city to the venue, with bikes that fitted the show's style being directed to park inside the main gates as an extra ride-in show. We drove up in my beaten up daily driver, but agreed we really ought to make it on our respective bikes & trike next year.
BayChimp took his camera so I was enjoying a day off from snapping duties, until he filled his memory card & I had to retrieve mine from the car. So these are mine & we'll add his later.

25 quid for a Hipster haircut, but there was a queue all day for a bit of male pampering -wonder if this guy got a discount?

Lots of modern Hinkley Triumphs, (a local dealership had 5 or 6 modified ones on display). This one seems to be sporting an old Yamaha tank.

XS650 Yams & other 70s/80s Japs outnumber Harleys, with some quirky choices thrown in as well.

One of my favourites. Very clean, simple lines but with a real eye for detail. Nice.
