Was supposed to be helping Flap fix the brakes on his Landrover today, but ended up pulling bits off the Honda Sabre I was given by Thrud a couple of weeks ago instead.
Threw away the big plastic airboxes. I''ll make up a new pair of tubular manifolds that curve forward with K & N filters on. Binned the hee-uge instrument console on the bars & the big square indicators. I've got a few spare mini indicators & some tiny round black bar-end mirrors sat on the shelf in my garage. Stripped the foam off the seat & cut the plastic base down. I'll cover it with a Millets black foam camping mat. Will have to make up some flat steel side panels. Might try perforated mesh ones. I'll leave the black plastic rear guard & bolt on the small number plate/rear light unit that Thrud gave me with the bike. The logbook says it should be red so might spray the tank bright red with the raised centre panel in black so it continues on through the seat & into the black rear guard. I've also got a pair of brand new stainless exhaust cans in my garage to go on it.
Looking forward to blarrting down the motorway on this one!
Just hope Reg can suss out the wiring now!

It will look good when it's done.
Put new front and rear brake shoes, new brake flexi hoses and new bleed nipples on me Land Rover today and only broke one wheel cylinder in the process. Only hurt one finger too. Not bad for me.

Will you ever learn?  You're supposed to be doing the very minimum to get it going so you're back on the road, not starting another project!

Not just my wrist. I'm starting to enjoy being nagged.  Wink
One has certain standards Bobbi. Even my ratbikes have to be respectably ratty.  Smiley
Could just remount the foam elements from inside the original airboxes for now. Definitely not keeping the boxes themselves though -like two Tupperware sandwich boxes bolted to the bike.

The thought seriously crossed my mind! I'd risk them being sucked into the engine though -that'd be interesting to have to explain to the RAC guy!

It lives!
Reg the wonder wirer came round today & poked & prodded the wiring loom & ummed & ahhed a bit & eventually we got it fired up & running. Sort of. Problem turned out to be a dodgy ignition switch so we replaced it with a plastic toggle switch. Now it runs, it's only firing on 3 though. One of the rear cylinders is staying cold. Someone's already replaced the plug cap on that pot so there's obviously a problem there. So next step's to bring in someone more mechanically minded than me, (next door's cat's more mechanically minded than me), to try & get some life in that fourth cylinder.
I actually rode the beast up & down the road though -maybe I should've checked the brakes first. And looked to see if there was any oil in the motor. It went though & feels like it'll go well once it's on full song. I can mess about slicing open the wiring loom & stripping out all the unwanted sensors & sender units for the Starship Enterprise warning light console now while I wait for someone like Dave_Postie to come & have a look at the motor -hint, hint!

Some new sparkplugs and leads might help.

'Tis entirely possible, but the one that's not firing's already been replaced.
Wouldn't do any harm to put fresh ones on though I guess.

That's brilliant news, wasn't a wasted day after all.

Just imagine if you'd left it here. Shocked  You'd have needed more than a wiring expert to get it going.

Dave attempted to start the Jawas up today and guess what!  Yup, thats right, the engine gurgled, coughed and spluttered and water was shooting out of the exhausts.   Maybe leave for a couple of days for it to dry out.
