Just seems to happen to me a bit to often.

Bloody Jeep Cherokee has developed a major water leak, it had a small leak before but i thought i'd fixed it when i put some Barr sealer in, anyway just got back from the shops and nearly boiled it dry, water all over the engine bay including the Barr sealer  Huh

Anyway it's so bloody tight under that bonnet i can't see where the poxy leak is coming from.

Anyone know of any major problems with these motors, so i know where to start looking, it's the straight 6, 4.0ltr 1994.

im glad im not the only one it happens to,has it over heated before and is the head warped? ive skimmed quite a lot of big 6 cylinder heads cant say whether they where jeep ones though so dont know if this is a common fault.

This is the first time the temp has gone up, only did it this time because it lost most of the water not just a cup full like before, where ever the water is leaking it's coming from the front of the engine and being sprayed everywhere off the pullys and belt, making it a lot harder to track down the leak.

Try the water pump. They start with a small leak then fail big time with an  Instant loss of all your water.

Front of engine in the middle is where the water pump is, if I remember rightly.

Hope it ain't that, they are a nightmare to do, got to take half the car apart to get to it Shocked

Plus they are bloody expensive and because it's a yank motor seems there are loads of different water pumps for the same engine, some spin clockwise and some anti clockwise.

Anyone want to do a Jeep Cherokee trike?

Grin Thats typical. The way to see if the water pumps gone is to grab hold of the fan and see if the fan turns both ways, it should only turn one way or if it wobbles side to side, it shouldn't. But as you haven't got a fan attached to the pump  Huh

Nah that's the V8. 5.3LTR one, mine is the straight 6, 4ltr this does 23mpg round town and about 29mpg on the motorway.

I've got a straight 6, 4 litre Jag motor gathering weeds outside my brother's workshop that's destined for my ratrod project.

Sounds good Andy, building a trike from this has crossed my mind, it would probally pay for it's self as well by selling off the parts i don't need.
