Title: My sons first camper van
Post by: the coppersmith on February 01, 2018, 01:30:15 PM
Just found this down the side of a chest of drawers. My son's first car. 1300 Escort Camper van, think it was an Elba. We rebuilt it and fettled it. Had Wolfrace slot mags and pinstripes. He loved that van, we think 1990 for the photo, sadly he seen fit to argue with a Devon hedge and the van is no more  :(

on site beside my old VW surf bus, Polzeath, before it became a "O ya" place

I love those mobile concertinas :)
My brother's first car was a white mark 1 Escort van. I remember him panelling the back out in pine tongue & groove, brown shagpile carpet, (very 70s), & hessian sacking on the roof. The cassette player was hooked up to some horrible tinny speakers set into the woodwork. So cool!
We'd go off to watch the drag racing at Blackbushe airport with his girlfriend & him in the front & 6 of his mates & me squashed in the back. Happy times :)

Looks like you had fun. Bet the pics of all the old vehicles bring back good memories, well except the hedge episode.

I'm probably being thick here but what does "O ya" mean.  ???  Do you mean frequented by Hooray Henrys?

I love Polzeath and have some very happy memories of the place. Haven't been there for years.

O ya, its what all the money set say when you ask a question. Reply " O ya" came down in the Range Rover. Or "O ya" would love a Pimms. This is a Cornish Pub we don't do Pimms  :D. Polzeath has been taken over by the money set, and the village of Rock next to it is to blame, they started a yacht club, this years must have is a membership. rant over  >:(

Years since I was at Polzeath too, can't imagine it like that.  I'm hoping to get down to Cornwall this year but I shal make a note to avoid Rock and Polzeath - I used to love both places.

Very expensive to camp down there now. Prime site though.

That is a shame. Both Cornwall and Devon have had locals priced out the housing market by the wealthy buying second homes. You see it in all scenic places around the UK but I think Cornwall in particular has been hit hard.

Erm, has anyone thought of who actually sells their houses to the "incomers"?, might it not be....locals, perhaps?, ...just a thought ??? ???

Well if I was being offered top price for my property I would sell it. It's those offering the top money and pricing locals out of the market place that cause the problem. They inflate all prices in the area then.

I loved Polzeath,we used to camp at valley camp site. You could just drive in pick your own spot, set up then wander over to the office to pay. The last time we went it was a tenner a night good value. Hate to think what it costs now.
