Here's a lesson of how to squeeze an exhaust pipe where it shouldn't normally go (between the gearbox and the frame)

Norton outfit with heavily modified down tubes, presumabaly to sharpen the steering angle

The thread's had "Sidecar 151" post an entry as this is his machine, and guess what, I got it wrong..... oops! Roll Eyes to quote Sidecar 151:

"the Norton outfit" photo'd in this thread is actually a 1948 Ariel engine with competition alloy Matchless head & barrel & my bike. Yes the down tubes were drastically altered to make it steer. Chassis is a (was a) 1956 Ariel Red Hunter.

As the photo was taken, this poor chap lunged towards the headstock as his chain had jumped the sprocket, lucky not to have damaged the crown jewels. Bike is a 1939 500 Triumph.

Can't say I've ever followed trials riding, but there's something very cool about the bikes. Always great to see vintage machinery still being used in anger too, rather than tucked away in museums.
Looks like fun.
