Title: Knockers.
Post by: Olds on June 18, 2018, 06:37:18 AM
Not vehicle related but I'm so pleased with how this turned out, that I had to share.
Hand forged door knocker. The head started off as a length of 1" round bar, squared up and folded back on itself to get enough mass and the 'rope' loop was 1/2" square bar.

Blooming lovely..and I want one :D  nice work Mr Olds..that's the type of craftsmanship I'm drawn too,but unfortunately my hands /elbows can't take the grip of hammers for more then a few blows..let alone banging away on the anvil :-\ envious..

Nice of you to say so but I'm nowhere near and don't have enough time left on this earth to become one. Happy to just be learning. :)

Yup, agree with Merv, definitely too much talent Olds. What is really nice, is making items like these gives you pleasure. Chills you out.

Creativeness is something everyone needs in their lives, whether it be building bikes / trikes, playing a musical instrument, singing, writing songs / poetry / stories, drawing / painting, taking photographs or creating beautifully forged metalwork or leatherwork. The list is endless and I would hazard a guess that most of us on this forum have at least one creative ability, even if we might keep it hidden from everyone else.  8)

:-[ Not sure I'd call it talent, more a strange need to create and learn.
Much of what I do is for therapy. While working, reality no longer exists, pain is reduced and it helps me to stay mobile.
I must admit to getting pleasure from sharing what I make and while lovely comments are nice, I'm happy if folk just see it.
As you say JJ, most on here will be be people with creative abilities. It's the nature of the site.

God I'd go crazy without my creativeness  :-[ the winter months are certainly taxing..so a warm forge sounds great for tinkering  ;D I've always enjoyed working with metal in some way..last October I spent some time watching a Spanish blacksmith making some nice decorative pieces ..looking forward to your next piece Sir 8)
