Yeah, I know, it's my own fault. Having almost single handedly wiped out the supply of cheap Reliant donors, I'm now looking for a Regal axle for a T bucket project. Anyone?

I assume it has to be a Regal one, to allow for larger diameter rims.

I would't blame yourself for almost wiping out the reliant axle population mate. I have the guts of 12 sat in my workshop. But non are Regal unfortunately.

Grin Never had a Regal one before, but certainly killed a few Robins & Rialtos over the years & encouraged the rest of the World to do the same.
Yup, the gearing would better suit the 28" ish diameter wheel/tyre combo. The Regal axle casing also happens to look more like a vintage one.
The other option for the back of the T bucket is a Triumph Spitfire IRS. Much easier to set up & better gearing, but not really the ol' school look we're going for.

What sort of width is the Regal  ,or any Reliant axle outer face to face ? You may find it looks too narrow ?

I seem to remember my last trike being about 48" overall width, (wheels on axle).

Might be easier to find a pop axle or similar these days.

About the same as an Anglia then, and that tends to look narrow against a T body. I'll try to send you a photo of my 23 with a 52" wide axle and that still looks too narrow to me ,even with wide rims.

well you know a robin /rialto one has a ring of studs n, nuts on one side of the diff casing ,,, the old regal ones have a ring of studs n, nuts on both sides and i,v even come across them with long nuts n, bolts (approx 4 inchs long ) that go straight through

also a dead give away on early ones is the rod brake linkage.

Cut out section's for chain drive for a trike. Moggy Minor axles used to be popular for the same treatment.
Mr Loon's actually got a Moggy axle. Anyone know how to tell what ratio it's got & whether it'd be any better than the standard Rialto one?

Unless you know the age of the axle, it's going to be either roll it and count the turns or strip and count the teeth.
I think these are the ratios. All would allow taller wheel/tyres.
1952-56 = 5.286:1?
1956-62 = 4.55:1
1962 on = 4.22:1 (1098cc)
1962 on = 4.55:1 (1098cc van and pickup)
GPO Vans = 5.375:1
