Flap & I have been having our weekly tinker with his trike today. Not so much a long term project as a lifetime one.
Braided stainless brake hoses throughout. Very flash. Every joint leaked. Bugger. O.K, buy a tube of sealant from Frost Restoration, sort of liquid PTFE. Squirt liberally on each thread & screw it all back together. Amazingly it works. Great. Start bleeding the brakes. Nothing happening at the pedal. Bugger. Turns out the brand new master cylinder is knackered. The piston's seized in it's bore. Bugger. Alright, drive across town in Flap's rumpitty bumpitty Landrover & pick up my master cylinder, (yet another part he owes me now). Works fine. Great. Start bleeding the brakes again. Drip, drip, drip. Now one of the reconditioned rear calipers is leaking, not from a joint but from the handbrake mechanism mount. Looks like a faulty O ring seal. Bugger.
So a whole afternoon spent gradually replacing & repairing the whole system bit by bit & it still ain't sorted. Bugger.

Oh the joys of tinkering with Manky Motors!

I've got a battery for mine now and guess what?  It's raining cats and dogs.

Did the brakes leak before you started improving them?

"Improving"? Hmm, that's a relative term. Flap's trike's been slowly taking shape for the past few years, bit by bit, as & when time & pennies allow. Finally filled the brake system up a couple of weeks ago -whereupon it began leaking from every available orifice. The master cylinder was brand new, as were all the hoses & unions, while the VW Golf calipers are recon units.

Having my own love/hate the trike day.

Front brakes (CX500) not up to much. As in seized.

Stripped the calipers, cleaned, new seals, new fluid, bleed them. OK.
Except there's air still in there somewhere. Huh
In the end I bungied the brake lever back, hope the air will rise overnight.

Looking at some piccies on the CX website, a sudden bolt of insight!
The bleed nipples are supposed to be on top of the barrel. Somebody's put mine on the banjo bolts, cuz the originals have snapped off, then been painted over. Angry So I've got air in the top of the caliper barrels.

Mr stud extractor's got a job tomorrow. Wink

I've got one of those combined banjo bolt/bleed nipple thingies on one of my rear calipers. Stud extractors -ooh, I smell a disaster in the making! Good luck Sir!

Looked at the remains of the old nipples.......no way I'm gonna get a stud extractor into that, and I'm not going near it with a drill. Shocked

.....so, there's more than one way to skin a cat.....(what a horrible adage...)

Calipers off, wedges between pads, turn callipers upside down, banjo bolt bleed nipples are now at the top. Lots of air bubbles out, jobs a good 'un. Grin

Just love it when a plan goes right. Wink

Anyone seen the black Reliant trike in 100% Biker this month? Water in frame, rear mounted radiator, hardtail, 45 degrees of rake, big wide flat bars, 15 inch wheels etc. Write up says how innovative & original it is ...looks awfully familiar! I guess imitation is the sincerest form of design theft & all that. Actually, it looks more like it's based on Sandy from Yorks' black one, (the guy who built the stretched Ducati chop), but I've chatted to him on the phone a few times & he's told me his was copied from mine after seeing it at the Bulldog!
