Petrol tank "sealed" , painted and fitted and NOW it decides to leak. Can't afford to get it repainted and it's weeping from where the tap boss ued to be ( tig welded). Can't put another seal on top , is there anything that could be used outside that wouldn't involve heat?. It's a sportster type tank and underneath so almost out of sight. I know it's not the right thing to do but I just can't lose another summer/year without a bike

Old fashioned bar of soap ! Coal tar or something basic like that ,it will react with the fuel and expand to seal the leak.

Here is something I have done and it worked for me.
Remove and empty tank. Remove all paint around the leak and clean with thinners. Seal the filler cap ( rubber glove works well) and any vents.
Apply cyanoacrylate (super glue) to the leak area. Lower the air pressure in the tank and leave like this for a few minutes. This should pull the glue into any porous areas. Wipe off all excess and seal with a coat of epoxy glue.

This is where I should say use a vacuum pump (or converted bicycle pump) attached to the fuel tap. What I should not say is "suck it and see"  Wink  Wink Cheesy
