17s? Ooh, them's BIG. Ska Man & I run 15s on ours with 50 profile tyres, while Simon & Flap have 14s on 60 profiles. They're all roughly 24" overall diameter, which gives us good acceleration with a top end of 85-90mph. We have 3 good gears with 4th becoming a sort of overdrive for motorway hauling. In theory bigger wheels should give you slower acceleration but a higher cruising speed, but be careful you don't go too big or you'll struggle to pull away. I reckon you'll need some ultra low profile rubber on them mate.

Thanks for the reply, I'm a bit worried now........ hopefully the trike will pull away ok. Going to be really embarrasing if it don't. I will keep to low profiles, the other pair are going on the mini trike that i'm building, hope that ones ok too...... regards Keith take care ride safe have fun.

Not trying to worry you! Haven't tried wheels that big so got no idea how they'll perform. Could be fine. I don't know. If the worst came to the worst, you could swap your Reliant axle for something like an Escort one, which gives you a wide range of diff ratios to choose from. Coincidentally, the Escort & Capri axles use the same bolt pattern as Reliants for the diff/prop shaft flange, although you'd have to make hub adapters for the wheels.

My 17"x7 wheels on my beetle are about the same overall diameter as the 15" with 60 series tyres. I use 205 40 r17 tyres stretched onto the rims, I think its about as low profile as you can get? Tyres are kumhos and were about 50 quid each.

Do you like the wooden suspension ? Needed to do that as the shocks are not mounted to the swinging arm yet. regards Keith
