those plates cost at least $280+ a year on top of the $700 + rego a year [ 550 pounds ] , cars cost a lot to run here as we average 15000klm a year and diesel is about $1.45 a ltr .

I wondered how the plate thing worked. So you can choose any combination of numbers & letters you want -no numbers in Manky.
So is "Manky" a recognised phrase there? I was in New York a couple of weeks ago & my T shirt baffled the guys at the car show I went to

In the States I explain it as similar to their "Funky" -it used to mean smelly, dirty, messy, worn out. Now it means cool
