Went and collected the lathe earlier! brought it home but Mrs T banned me from bringing in into the lounge, although i was half way through the front door before she noticed  Grin. So for tonight she has to stay in the back of the car, the lathe that is, not the Mrs  Roll Eyes.

Dam this stuff is heavy! or i`m getting old  Roll Eyes.
Here`s the original stand, not complete though. These lathes were originally people powered, the stand would have had a large wheel mounted on the left hand side, the wheel was a large pulley with an external groove that the belt ran in, the wheel was tredal operated, a pivoting bar that you pushed down with your foot. As you pushed on the bar, the wheel/pulley moved round, in turn pushing the bar back up again and via the belt which was attached to the pulley on the lathe, it would turn the lathe.

The whole machine including base is cast iron, hauling it to the back of the shed by myself was not easy! I`d like a bit of sympothy when you see in this picture just what i had to negotiate!
Note to self....need a bigger shed, or less junk!

Anyway i did it, and got the lathe on the stand.
There she is in her new home. A vintage, Drummond Bros lathe. As mentioned before, she`s around a hundred and one years old, circa 1908, no serial number so it`ll be impossible to establish the exact year she was made. How many men have stood infront of her and produced who knows what?
