iv  got a  old  1800  ea 82 boxer and  need to fit to a , old beetle box. this is were im at on this so far in my thinking, 200 or so mm clutch fly wheel from a 1600 engine, give this to a shop i  no that will spin it on a lathe and reduce or sleeve (depending what way i need to go with it), the center to fit the end of the crank then a  device made to fit the centers of both fly wheels so i can drill  and fit to new engine, the adapter plate is already in my head and should not be to much effort, its mainly the flywheel.
im aware that some  would think the 1800 is pointless when there is 2000 ltr out there ready , but simple fact is iv got the 1800 and  will work out better for me in the long run. thanks  for any advise you can give. Smiley

I have an 1800 engine with 200mm clutch that I was thinking of putting on my VW Dodge. Jump on www.volkszone.co.uk into air cooled technical and ask them there. Jinx on there sold me the 200mm clutch modified to mate the 1800 to my 1600 IRS gearbox. It wasn't much needed modifying but I can't remember what, Jinx will tell you

Sorry Dodge, after I had pressed send I noticed the Subaru bit, mines a transporter 1800. Still ask on Volkszone they have a section dedicated to mating different engines to VW boxes

I have seen something about the adapters on volkszone but not read that much, it was just a bit of machining I think, possibly even filing for mine.

End of the day it's only going to be some sort of make up plate to join the two bits together, while it may be brain surgery to me there will be lots of she'd heads capable I would think.

Main thing is check costs of buying it and find what it costs to get it done yourself then do what's best if you can afford it.

Thinking about this a bit more Dodge, didn't Thunderace use Subaru engine and one of the Subaru gearboxes on his trike and make his own wishbones type rear end?

Is that an option?

funny thing this, i was looking for a auto box  for the trike and stumbled upon the  the  adapter plate, dont know were it come from, but have found a v8 one and a Subaru for  400 euros in germany but dont have good rep. i will convert a flywheel  im very sure i can do a diy adapter based on kevs trike conversion, it looks simple to do.
