If you're building a new trike from them, the logbook's only really useful as a proof of purchase & age. These days you can't get away with running a brand new tubular trike frame & claiming it's the original Reliant chassis. The only way you could keep the logbook & registration number would be to build a trike around the entire original Reliant chassis & steering/suspension & just re-body it. Anything else will need to be registered as a new vehicle using the MSVA/BIVA process. Nowhere near as difficult as some would have you believe & the only way to be legit. So as long as you're sure the engine numbers aren't being used on someone else's logbook, paying the extra 100 quid won't really get you much. 100 quid per car's not a bad price if it gets you all the running gear -motor, gearbox, axle etc, especially if you could negotiate it lower for a bulk buy. 500 quid for all 6?

Does it really matter if someone else is using the log book? If you've got the engine you can prove (if you ever need to) that you have the right to that engine number! Whatever illegal shenanigans other folks get up to is up to them?

You're right Bobbi, but just a bit more hassle when you come to MSVA/BIVA your creation & they check the engine number on their computer & it comes back saying it's already in use.
