Title: B17 bomber crashes in Conneticut
Post by: Manky Monkey on October 02, 2019, 08:00:33 PM
Tragic pictures from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut this morning as it is reported that B17 42-31909 "Nine o Nine" has crashed onto runway 6 with multiple casualties.

About 100 miles from me here in Boston.

On the back of this, I discovered the Canadian Lancaster bomber does sight-seeing flights to Niagara Falls. Now that'd be a bucket list trip.

Sad news about the B17.

A flight in a Lancaster? What are you waiting for, (the plastic should take it!!)

There are only two airworthy (flying) Lancasters left, the one you mentioned in Canada, and PA474, part of BBMF in the UK.

The Canadian Lancaster was in the UK in 2014, here’s a pic I took of it with ‘ours’ doing a flypast at the Sept Goodwood Revival, a rare sight indeed.
Wonder if we’ll ever see the two together again...............

I saw them together too, but can't remember which airshow I was at, (a friend from work was a huge fan of the Vulcan bomber so we did a few shows together to see it fly). There's a 3rd one being restored privately by 2 brothers in Lincolnshire. When the Canadian one was here, the 2 of them flew over the 3rd while it was taxiing on the runway.
