Taking it back tomorrow. Angry
Haven't had a TV for a year or so now & can honestly say I don't miss it at all, but Rainbow's becoming a more frequent visitor at Chez Mank now & I thought it'd be the hospitable thing to do to go buy one.
Was seduced by the rows of shiny screens in Currys. Bought a flat screen thingy that I could also plug my PC into so I'd only have one unit cluttering up the flat.
3 hours later. Rainbow's tried to set it up. I've tried to set it up, (ha, ha, ha! I'm the last of the true Luddites. She was going to buy me an MP3 player. I wanted to buy a 50s style Bush radio set & hang it round my neck on a piece of string), made phone calls to People Who Know About These Things. Given up. Can't get a TV signal no matter what we try. I've taken it as a sign. Don't need a Tellly. Don't want one.
21st century? Never heard of it.

Yeah, technology &  Monky just don't mix, so it's back to black & white radio 2 for me. Mind you, my sister's emigrating to Canada soon so the family are looking into getting SKYPE to keep in touch, (web based free phone system). Manky goes international. Smiley
Took the TV & digi box back to Currys this morning. Manager said "No we can't give you a refund, you've opened the box".
"But how do we know it won't work until we plug it it?"
"Sorry".
"So you can sell me a 260 quid telly & if it doesn't work I'm stuck with it?"
"Yup".
So Rainbow mentioned she's in retail management & paraphrased a few consumer regs.
"I'll phone my manager"..."O.K, yes we can refund you".
Gits.

Wouldn't have needed chapter and verse. The TDA states that an item must be fit for the purpose intended. It didn't work.

Probably worked fine, just not on my system. Got an NTL cable socket, but I don't subscribe to the TV channels, just t'internet, so the TV signal is probably switched off. So we tried plugging into the communal aerial socket. Still nothing.
Never mind. Got a refund & can still buy Bagpuss on dvd & watch it on the computer when I want to.

The NTL socket shouldn't have made a difference. Did they test the set in the shop?

I'm happy enough with my Beko 21" TV that was less than a hundred quid from Currys four years ago, although we had a huge Toshiba state of the art thing before with surround sound, and I did miss the surround sound for quite a while.

Just smarmy salesmen in the shop. Doubt they'd know how to test it. Didn't even open the box when we took it back -should've filled it with bricks instead.
The guy in the flat above mine used to have surround sound. Used to make my whole flat rumble. Certainly surrounded me with sound. I'm happy with Radio 2 & a good book. My imagination's better than any TV set.

Indeed. Why not buy a digital radio, though? You'd love BBC 7.

Would I have to buy it from Currys?

No, Curry's is not the only purveyor of electrical commodities in the world! DAB radios have started to really come down in price - my last one was £49 from Argos.

Argos? Now you're talking! A quality establishment who's staff are knowledgable in all manner of electronic goods.

Ah, but at least Argos' staff don't pretend to know about stuff. They just take your money, get you your goods and moan if you steal their little pens.

Surreptitiously pushes pile of pens under sofa.
I shall peruse their catalogue this evening.
