Clear coated bare metal wont last more than 6 mounths in this country before it rusts. Been tried loads of times. Just leave it to the Californians! Manky trikes dont need no flashy paint jobs to stand out!!

They're built to ride all year round, though most seem to come off the road for the Winter for new ideas to be tried out! So industrial strength powder-coating's the way to go for us. It's cheap too!

Hmm, 40 quid a wheel, but not guaranteed airtight. Can you still get 14 inch tubes to fit a 235 tyre?

No idea! Some of the guys on the thread have them done and have sealed the wheels either with powder coat, araldite or some such coating. They use them on 2 litre super stock car racing, so Im not worried about the strength! Be a bugger to find tubes to go on the 17" pop wheels though! Or would motorbike tubes work? Also Dad has tubes in his tyres for the pontiac. They are over 235 width.

Have you sorted a set of Pop wheels for the Volksrod yet? I'm putting black taxi cab rims on my Pop so mine'll be going spare. Taz's wheels would be powder-coated, then could run a film of Araldite over the inside afterwards.

Not all of them, got 2 coming from Mr Panther sometime, so I wouldnt mind yours too. Widen the back ones to 5.5" wide and do something to them to make them look a little different too. I would imagine the powdercoat and araldite/ something sticky round the welds would suffice, but pretty sure you could get tubes to fit too.

Brock & I spoke the other day about using a Moggy wheel on the front, but then you'd need a hub of some sort with bearing carriers & a mounting for the brake disc etc. Suddenly gets very complicated, expensive & not particularly pretty when it's done. Putting 2 outside faces of a Moggy wheel back to back would be clever, but again, very expensive to do & would make the front end look very heavy. The whole point of our trikes is that they're small & lightweight & simple, so a solid bike front wheel, or at least something that'll look right with the steel rear ones, is what we're after.

What about a more pretty version of the rat look favourite, putting 2 cut up bin lids over the spokes.

rofl...hmm now then wot about using a scrap gas tank butane type bigish one obviously would be cheaper to buy a billet wheel im guessing but or just a round lump of mild sheet welded to the outer rim? that would prolly distort the rim to hell and back ar well im talking rubbish again so nout new there

Just been reading the banded wheel thread from retro rides again. www.wide-wheels.co.uk are more expensive but come powder coated and are seeking kite mark and tuv approval. Cant argue with the legality of that! Back to the front wheel, I was thinking like 2 moon disc type arrangements held on with some hidden or small fasteners. Wouldnt fancy seam welding a sheet of steel on it, for the very reason you said VB! Bottom of a large gas bottle might look pretty kool!
