Hi Guys,

Thought i'll do a intro post and give a bit of background on Project Resurrection.

My name is Marc but all my friends call me Geordi, a nick name from years ago
I'm not from Newcastle, I'm origianly from Southend Essex now living in Crawley West Sussex

A good frind of mine ownes 2 trikes, one he uses and one thats been sitting for about 7-10 years
We have decided to get this restored over the winter,

It's a reliant based trike it built by a Trike builder in Essex called Chalky, I beleave this was the last trike he built before he passed away.
My friend was friends with Chalky so it has a lot of sentimental value to him,
The trike will remain my friends on the log book but I will get to remake it and paint it my way.

This is going to be my first project of this nature, I have found loads of great infomation on this forum but in time I will be asking loads of questions,

I know how much you guys love pictures, I dont have any at the moment but as soon as I do i'll post some up

I have bought a reliant engine from ebay, as far as we know the current gearbox and axel are in ok condition
The brakes all over will need to be replaced, i'll wanting to go for the disk conversion for the rear
All the wireing is good enough for the bin so there is a project there in itself

Anyway i'm sure when I get the trike out from under its tarp and start to stip it down i'll have more of a idea of the extent of the task ahead

Hiya Marc.
Welcome aboard mate.
Yup, we loves the photos. Another one bites the dust ....begins the downward spiral to insanity ....takes the first steps on the journey to a new project.
Good luck!  Tongue

First question,

For reliant trikes what are the pro's and con's for having a the throttle on the handle bar's and a foot accelerator
And what have most of you guys done?

Thanks

Well, most guys go with the traditional bike set-up of a twist grip on the handlebars. Just the norm I guess. A lot of trikers are ex bikers so it would feel natural to them. I tried an internal throttle on the bars of my last trike, but found it didn't open the carb fully, so went back to a standard bike unit instead.
Brock used a foot throttle pedal on one of his Reliant trike builds. Worked fine as far as I know. Only problem is you'll need 3 pedals -throttle, brakes & clutch. Brock fitted the clutch on the left & brakes & throttle on the right, I think the brake was mounted higher than the throttle but I'm sure he'll put me right on that.

Thanks for that,

Another question, I know this one it to do with somthing thats way off in the build.

Wiring and electrics
Looking at this diagram it all looks simple and workable
http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/Tech/wiringdiagram.html

But I want to add 1 or 2 cigarette lighter socket, one for satnav and one somthing else I have in mind,

Where would I put it in the diagram/loom

Thanks in advance

Hello n welcome along Geordi.
With regards to fitting auxiliary sockets, it depends on what you want to use in them, by that, i just mean do they need to be permenantly live or only live when your riding (for example the sat nav).
The quick option would be to wire them directly to the pos side of the battery, via a fuse, this makes them perm live. Failing that just add another fuse to the circuit diagram and feed from there.
Auxiliary sockets are a good idea but bear in mind that anything plugged into one with the engine not running will be drawing power from the battery, its not a good idea to plug a portable telly in and run it for a couple of days, unless you like push starting vehicles  Roll Eyes

I plan to fit an auxillary socket in the side of my battery box. Probably wire it into the ignition circuit so it's only live when the ignition's on cos I'd be worried I'd drain the battery or some idiot would poke something in it or something. So how often do you plug TVs into your trike then Tim?

Were the 750cc engines able to run unleaded or would I need to get a LRP fuel or inline lead cat?
