So ,here we go again........Picking up chassis this week..1973 spit chassis with front and rear suspension, but no engine/box. Ford 1300 x flow eng/box etc being delivered this week.Plan is to mock up eng/box into chassis to work out seating position/rear wheel position, and where to mount the diff. This will then give me how much to chop the chassis off .Im having either a bench seat or buckets, permanently fixed, and then making the spit pedal box movable forward/aft.

Rod there is a wright up in the Autumn addition of Trike,On the shelf now worth a look,
Think it was built here in Wales somewhere,it has raced in LLandow,
Anyway the guy has used metro subframe,Bolted to a home made chassis,(Space frame),He has used a single metro swingarm at the rear with drum brake and sprocket,He is using an electric motor attached to a metro gearbox,This is a car style 3 Wheeler bench seat,Steering wheel.
But looks interesting.

You doing a tadpole with rear wheel drive Rod?

Front wheel drive car would save you a lot of work

Nah, I think its easier this way!......................
This morning collected the chassis and have chopped off the rear suspension and removed the diff from its 'cage' .Going to get the 1300 x flow and box dummied up in there today. Been taking pics, will post them later.

Was just thinking if you went front a cheap Citroen 1600 diesel would be a tyre shredder. That one of mine has loads of torque and it doesn't matter how much I thrash it it never drops below 42.8 mpg, gets boring trying after a while

Grin Grin. I went for this way,as all the front end is conncted to the chassis already done (Spitfire) The eng/box was already sold,so got the x flow. With the original engine I would be almost there, but now I gota build engine mounts etc. Just waiting for my sons to turn up to give me some stick about another 'crazy' idea help position the engine in the chassis, so I can sit on a pretend seat and make brum brum noises! Rods reverse trike build.

Chassis with rear x member cut off.The diff that is sitting on the rails will mount between the frame ends in the 'y' fork area.

Another view of the frame ends. These will have the trailing arm mounted to them.Obviously I'll strengthen this whole area and fit somesort of a x memeber to bolt the rear of the diff to.

This is the basic body shape, checking to see what angles are needed to clear the engine, and also if the engine needs juggling around to get a better fit.I think its about right for the body side curve. I took the basic cockpit dimensions from the Locost book,so I know it'll be adequate.Tomorows job will be to start the engine mounts.  Eventually the front part of the frame forward of the anti roll bar will be lopped off,but leaving it for rigidity while other stuff is done.Chassis still sitting on floor, cos   a) I havent got any wheels, and   b)Im only working on the floor plan, and everything is 'live' at present.

G/Box mount tacked in.
A bit held up now as waiting for the rad to arrive, gotta order some steel, and need to find some spitfire wheels for the front, this will give me the ride height to make and set the rear swing arm to. Also got to find a prop to fit the x flow splines, and poss a spitfire prop as well.

Its all a case of supplier vs distance. This one was being broken privately about 4 miles away, but I didnt realise it until he only had the chassis and suspension left! I hired a van cheaply and it took less than an hour to get it home! An hour after that the chopping started! Grin
