O.K folks, we're paid up for another year. Had some problems transferring money out of PayPal & into a normal bank account but sorted now.
So this year we've managed to raise the very grand total of £345 towards the continuing care of the apes at MonkeyWorld, (we sponsor Mickey the chimpanzee by the way). That's our best result so far & a credit to the big hearted members of this forum. In these financially challenged times, it's harder than ever to find spare cash, so we appreciate your generosity. We're very proud of each & every one of you.
The ladies who run the adoption scheme at the centre asked me to pass on their thanks to you all. I'll add our own thank you to that ...thank you. You're all very nice peoples. A bit odd, but nice.   Kiss
As usual, we'll receive a free entry ticket for up to 30 visitors, (that's a once only entry for 30 people using the ticket on the same day), so will be running our regular annual trip down to MonkeyWorld in Wareham, Dorset on the last Sunday in April.
That's Sunday, the 29th of April, 2012 -put it in your diaries.
You don't have to turn up on, or in, a custom vehicle -this is just a chance to meet a few fellow forumers & enjoy a day out. Obviously priority for free entry will go to those who've contributed, but as always, everyone's welcome, so bring the kids & make a day of it.
Thanks again guys -a fantastic effort.  Grin

I have just asked for a long weekend off so will do my best to come down. Not worried about free tickets so long as I can get in by buying some so no worries there. Would like to say I will be on one of the trikes but they will more than likely not be on the road and I will be in the car. So long as I can get there I don't really care Smiley

I've never managed to turn up with a custom vehicle yet, so don't worry about it!
Had a package in the post from MonkeyWorld today. Not Micky our adopted chimpanzee, but a Thank You pack for our donation.
A free entry ticket for 30 Monkeys, forum members.
The adoption certificate.
A photo of our boy.
A brochure for the park.

And would you like a cuddly Monkey toy? Duh! Of course! I never turn down a free Monkey.
So what do we do with him? Raffle him off & send the cash to MonkeyWorld? Give him as a long distance trophy on the next MonkeyWorld run?
I guess we should christen him Micky? Any ideas?

Long distance trophy sounds a good idea - starting a sort of tradition following the Basingstoke do!

Grin Whoever wins him will have to leave him outside though or we'll get accused of nicking him from the gift shop.

Just received the Winter edition of the Monkeyorld newsletter, plus a Christmas card from them.
The apes are split into family groups & the newsletter includes a couple of lines about each one from their keepers.
Micky's entry says:
Micky is a very popular member of the group due to his gentle nature. He loves to bed down early for the night & can frequently be found half asleep while the others are still finishing dinner or making their nests.
-Dat's our boy!
We've got a stack of these newsletters if anyone wants to browse them.
Fundraising has been stepped up in the last couple of years with several events planned within the park for next year.
A 25th anniversary "Party in the Park", under a circus big top, one Saturday evening in July '12.
A posh dinner & dance & charity auction at Poole Lighthouse Theatre one Saturday in April '12.
The Great Big Sleepover camping event in July '12.
Or how about a 165 foot bungee jump, one Sunday in September '12 -"One giant leap for Apekind".
As usual, we'll be having a run down there on Sunday the 29th April '12 to use our free entry ticket -entry for up to 30 people. Why not join us.  Wink
