Yeah, I'm ashamed to say the thought -"Thank God we moved the Honda the day before" did cross my mind!
Glad you managed to clear things up enough not to need my services today Hon, but I'm still on standby with me Marigolds & wellies if you need me, (!).
Maybe an honourable death at sea's the best thing for the Jawas!

Very funny.

Dave mentioned earlier about popping over sometime this week, drop your parts off that were left here, before they go rusty.  Don't forget to ask Nige about Wednesday.

Glad that you have got it 3/4 fired up. Shame it's not all four!

Hope that you can sort it. Wink

Check the carb on the one that's not firing, to make sure the bowl's filling up. If it has diaphragm carbs, check that. If still no joy, another plug. Then a compression test.

Rear nearside pot's the one not firing.
Spoke to the guy who gave me the bike & he admitted he'd never heard it run. Owned it for 3 months, couldn't get it sorted so gave it away -so we're one up on him already!
Didn't get time to check the plug's firing so will be the first thing we do next time.

Yeah, I've had inlet rubbers that were perished on my XSs. Sucked in air & caused all sorts of misfires. Getting white smoke from one of the exhausts, which I'm assuming is just unburnt fuel.

Unhook your tenders Sir. Janie & Dave Posties are due here soon -the joys of being Postal Occifers, we've finished for the day. Dave's more of a tinkerer than me so I'll eat cake & pass him spanners & we'll see if we can get it sorted. Watch this space!  Grin

Hmm, well Janie & Dave turned up but could only stay an hour or so , (I'll be meeting up with them again later at a local bike meet).
Really not sure about the bike now. It's sparking on the cylinder I thought was dead & seems to pull pretty well when I take off up the road on it. Never owned a V4 so really not sure what they SHOULD sound like. Maybe they are just a lumpy ol' motor & there's nothing in fact wrong with it. I can build a bike around an engine but I freely admit fault diagnosis ain't my strong point.
Mr Toad, are you there? You've worked on these before. If you're coming up here in a few weeks anyway, any chance you could cast an eye over it for me? I've got odds & ends to do on it -cover the seat, make up side panels, wire in a proper ignition switch, (found a brand new spare one in my garage), fit lights & indicators etc so can keep myself busy on it for a while.
So an inconclusive report for now I'm afraid.
