Rockingham - from 215mph lap to vehicle storage

Rockingham was the first banked oval constructed in Britain since the closure of Brooklands in 1939, and opened in 2001 with a cracking event (including a certain oily fellow crawling round on one of the parade laps on a borrowed 1930s/40s Velocette GTP being overtaken by just about everything including thunderous historic race cars being driven with chaps in flat caps giving 'em the beans).
Nowadays its being used as a vehicle storage facility.
In its heyday it saw a lap record set at a little over 215mph by Tony Kannan.
Sigh...…………..

Been like this for a few years now, mostly caused by local house buyers complaining of noise from the racing. More circuits are under threat.

Here's what Autocar had to say in their article "The rise and fall of Rockingham Motor Speedway" from 2018.

Interesting,Tony, and a shame that maybe the right operators were never in charge, someone who may have hosted Endurance/24 Hr.type racing, 2 wheels of course!
, ho hum, another one bites the dust.....to coin a phrase...
