Hi Guys, after reading saddlebags trike frame article and noting that a Suzuki Carry has a 1.3 lump I got to thinking that this may be the way to go for my next trike But me not knowing much about what cars/vans have what engines/boxes has anyone got any pictures/drawings showing the "drivetrain layout" etc, maybe from a haynes manual, they can mail me or post. I am open minded to most cars/vans with compact engine/box as long as it rear wheeldrive, I did think of useing front wheel drive and turning the engine 90 degrees blanking one of the output shafts but think it not that a good idea.

I considered a volvo 340 at one time Rear wheel drive with a de-dion axle, also with a gearbox mounted on the axle. Not the pretiest engine but a complete car can be picked up very cheap, just a thought http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_340

I think the Suzuki Carry is a good little package except that to get a practical amount of power from the 1.3 lump, they have very low gearing. You'll soon be flat out. It would be worth looking for a compatible axle with a diff ratio to compensate for the gearbox.
I'm renovating a Volvo 340 trike at the moment. Bits are still cheap as donors are everywhere.
transmission from a 340......

I'm not in the Taliban! It was January! Front engine, shortened prop, rear gearbox/final drive unit on a De Dion axle converted to coilovers from leaf springs.
