Title: Suspension lift
Post by: Clive on April 05, 2011, 12:01:17 PM
Can anyone explain how those little 'dog bone' shaped bits allow the rear suspension to be raised on streetfighter-y type bikes?

Using different length dogbones in effect lengthens the shock,
by rotating the knuckle that the shock is attached to,
the shorter dogbone will raise the back -end.

Me neither!  I'm so glad someone asked - but the answer just says what they do, not how they do it!  - or where?

By pivoting  ;D.
Check the pic, and which bit is bolted where on the triangular plate, then imagine what would happen if you altered the length of the dogbone.
A longer one will push the plate back and pull the shocker down, a shorter one will pull the plate forward and in turn raise the shocker.

Got it all sorted, and back on the road!! Seven days start to finish!!

Picked this up last week, "running on three cylinders, and needs carbs balanced mate" (plugged the fourth spark plug lead back in, and cleaned all the 'tar' out the carbs! :) )

rolled this out the garage yesterday, MoT'd it, taxed it, and rode it with a silly grin on my face!!!!

There is another way of raising the rear end if you have twin shox with concentric adjusters, turn adjusters upside down, been doing it that way for years.

Or you could use some of these
