Thanks Shaun that's what I say. I want to leave them yellow too. Yes they need re-doing but would be good to keep them as close to original as possible.
my pleasure  Kiss Kiss Kiss only they don't need redoing  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes that is called patina Cool Cool Cool

Grin Think I'm falling into the trap of thinking we've spent so much time, money & effort getting this far, nothing less than perfection will do -that way lies madness & bankruptcy! We originally set out to throw the thing together as cheaply as possible to have fun with. Already gone beyond that. There's a fine line between keeping it low tech & being scruffy just for the sake of it. I don't think the restoration guys would forgive us if we just threw it together after all the work they've put in. Tasteful patina, that's the way to go.

It's not the original 383 that was first in the car. We know that much. Pinball started with a 383 then had a 440 with nitros then at some point a 383 was put back in it then the guy who owns it now bought it then put in a 440.

There's signs of yellow paint all around the motor Paul, but someone's slapped a thick coat of black over everything -looks like it was done with the engine still in the car. We're going to strip that off & re-do it. Taz has got a couple of snapshots of the engine fitted in the Wizard. I'll nag her to scan & post them.

Yup that's the yellow. Will at some point have a scrape arround the engine and see what's under the black paint.

Here are some photos that I scaned of the 383 I now have when it was in Pinball

The rocker covers & sump are yellow, but it looks like gold paint under the black on the crankcases.
Strangely, the gearbox that came with our car is exactly the same yellow, as were the original front wings & doors.
