Unless things have changed in the past year.
You can ride to the test centre providing that you have a suitable driving licence, obtain insurance using the vin number and that the vehicle complies with lighting regulations.
You do however run the risk that if it fails MSVA you may not be allowed to ride it home again.

the manager of our test centre said it was ok to use a dolly because it was covered by the towing car provided it was a ridged towing device ie not a rope

Same with the car test Dave, you are allowed to drive there , and the MOT, without plates. However you MUST trailer it to a DVLA inspection .Obviously with those shut now I believe you no longer need a second inspection ( to check the numbers that VOSA have already checked at the MSVA  Roll Eyes)

Providing all up weight INCLUDING Dolly is not more than 750kg on an unbraked trailer ...so many car drivers ( or motorhomes dragging another car behind ) drag a car behind on an unbraked dolly without realising it's illegal

cheers guys. tweeking a few bits and running it round the work car park to get used to it but going in circles is getting a bit boring.
so i can get it insured and ride it there then? that would save the worry of getting a van from work. best start calling insurance companies.

Maybe get someone to follow you in a back up vehicle with some tools & a few spares -in case anything works loose or whatever & so that you're not stranded at the roadside with an unregistered vehicle, (although it's legal, it's bound to cause hassle while they check if the Police find you).

i have now insured it on the vin number only. went with bikesure on TPFT to keep the cost down for first year. the alternator packed up so changed that. now just tiding some wires and checking over the manual. Undecided
