Well had a productive day, we have well and truly f**ked the axel  Embarrassed

Managed to get another on off evil bay picking it up tomorrow,  Smiley

Now the plan is to cut if axel off, get a friend to make up some axel clamps and get this back end back together,

Think were going to leave the rear brakes as drums for the time being

Well at least that's a decision made!
Did you find out what the problem was?

No

as the old axel is welded in. When I cut it off the frame I might take it appart and have a look

Picked up the Axel from a place called go on and have a guess

Monkey Farm, of all things

Guess the next part of the project is to remove the old axel and get this one welded in,

Taking of pix I opened up the rocker cover on one of my engines, and there were some bits loose and broken in there

Can anyone let me know what this is (apart from broken)

just about to order my gasket kit. Are these a push on type valve
stem seals
they don't look like the top hat style

thus making this engine leaded

Just spent 10 mins cleaning some rust off the bolts and went over the rocker cover. Under the blue there is red paint as well

As far as I know red was the standard Reliant colour. The less common high compression engines had yellow covers -but there's no guarantee the cover is the one the engine left the factory with!
I always use WD40, simply because it's all I have to hand in my shed. Plusgas is good if you can find it.

Hi Geordi
Just a quick question. Are you sure this is one of Chalkys Trikes? Only reason I ask is that Chalky was the first member of our club to leave this mortal coil and I never remember him doing a tubular frame. The only ones I ever saw him do was all box section and normally with a Reliant front end on as well. I know it makes no real difference to your project and if it is it`ll be good to see a White trike back on the road.

Hi mate

I'll get my mate mark or goth on here to do a write up on the proper history of it

On another note making good progress
on prepping the lump ready for the head strip down over the bank hol

managed to loosen most of the nuts. On some of them the studs come out as the nust are well rusted on
where can I get new studs from?
Also the water pump is well and truly stuck any ideas on how I can remove it

if the water pump is stuck I think getting the head off will be a challenge

Had a great day yesterday, only thing I forgot to do was take any pictures

First of my mate Jon came ove and we decided to takle one fo the engines,
The first job after a cup of tea was to put up the gazebo, easy just follow the instructions, well
the instructions asked for parts A B C and D but we had 1 2 3 and 4, so with a little bit of monkey know how we got a shelterd work area set up

Then we asseblmed the engine stand, (£30 ebay) and tried to figure out where to put the mounts, we figured out we need to remove the cluch and fly wheel, thay came off without too much hassle

Got it mounted and on the stand, now onto the cleaning, we used gunk engine degreaser and I have to say it came up really well,
These is some pitting on the ally, but i'm going to go over it all again, this was just to get the most of the crap off the block,

While it was on the stand we though it would be a good idea to empty the sump,
well get got about .5l of fluid from the sump, .25 oil and .25 water,

Not impressed. What have I got here,

Well we might as well continue,

with the engine clean-ish we decided to take the rocker off and get the head off,

i'll finish off the right-up later
