Date for the Vintage Sports Car Club Driving Tests - January 9th 2011.

Worth double checking the website prior to the event if you're planning to go. SEE NEXT MESSAGE
Taken from the Brooklands Museum website  http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?

Some 60 pre-war cars will tackle a dozen different tests around complicated courses laid out on the historic Brooklands track, with drivers competing against the clock while trying to avoid any penalty-attracting mistakes. All sorts of pre-war cars are expected to take part ranging from stark sports-racers to stately saloons and even a few spindly veterans. Tests will take place both morning and afternoon. More vintage cars are also expected to be on display in the Paddock.

Visitor parking is in The Heights off Wellington Way or in the Museum car park at Mercedes-Benz World. Visiting pre-war cars may park in the Paddock.

04-01-11: This weekend for those interested in seeing some of the really old stuff (similar to some of the stuff photographed at the New Years Day events at The Pheonix and in Bournemouth)

VSCC link

Brooklands website doesn't show this on the "Events" page for some weird reason, but does show it if you download the Events Calendar  Huh  Huh, so I dropped them an email, and they say IT IS ON.

This is how they tested cars on the Test Hill "1925 style"

And here's the Napier in action back in 1937 and outside it's current home the museum (apart from when it visits certain events such as Goodwood)

There's also a Concorde at the site............

After a frosty start with black ice on the roads, the sun came out in like a good un in dear-old-Surrey, with a beautiful blue sky backdrop.
There must have been around 100 Vintage Sports cars at Brooklands, all there when I arrived at 9.30, so their journey, without heaters (in most cars) and on skinny tyres was probably an event in itself, then they decided to blat about doing autotest driving tests for the next few hours, crunching gears and spinning tyres on these wonderful historic motors.

A friendly atmosphere and good access to the vehicles, along with the museum's usual exhibits and the welcome sunshine made for enjoyable few hours.

Here's a few snaps to give an idea of what went on at the World's first purpose built race track.

An Italian SCAT - rare it certainly is!

Wikipedia - The SCAT (Societa Ceirano Automobili Torino) was Italian automobile manufacturer from Turin, founded in 1906 by Giovanni Ceirano.

The company was active from 1906 to 1932 and achieved Targa Florio wins in 1911 and 1912.[2] The first produced models were the 12 HP, the 16 HP and the 22 HP of 1909.

The cloth cap boys looking at a 1930's  Aston Martin (this car's first proper outing after 40 years of 'nothing').

It has some history with the Pheonix (new year's day gathering location)
