Great day out. Fantastic turn out. Chevy Rick and I went in his '49 Chevy Pick-up (Nadine). Her first big outing since the work on the engine. She went really well. More go than us two anyway. ;D Nice to meet up with so many people, many we hadn't seen since last Summer. That's my favourite bit about Wheels Day; lots of great cars, but even better folks. I'm told by those that arrived early there was a heavy frost, but as I live just 20 minutes up the road from the arena, I had a lie-in & arrived fashionably late, by which time the sun was in full effect. Although Taz owns a '69 Dodge Charger, (same year & model as this), neither of us are fans of General Lee replicas. They're everywhere. Two of 'em at the show today. The Great Chavvy British public seem to love them -"Britney, go stand next to that wikkid motor so I can get a photo on me phone, innit" -a good enough reason to paint hers any colour except orange. The doors are interchangeable & they were originally designed so that the front left wing could be swapped with the rear right one & vice versa, to cut down on factory pressings. There were a lot more of these wacky creations around when I first got into the custom scene in the 70s/80s. I guess modern registration/safety requirements have stifled the creativity a bit, although there's one very similar being built at the moment to comply with the latest BIVA registration test.

Title: Re: Surrey Street Rodders Wheels Day, Good Fri 6th April 2012, Rushmoor Arena A/shot Post by: Dave_postie on April 08, 2012, 06:49:15 PM erm, yes, not a good day for me, the model A cut out 3 times going there. i thought it was fuel so parked up and left it. then my mate pointed out my fanbelt was twisted, so i loosened the alt bracket which then snapped at the weld. so what to do, find smaller fanbelt in auto jumble to just drive the waterpump, errr no, the pulley is so near the chassis crossmember you cant get the fanbelt off. i gave in with stress.we then bump into richard and friend,in short he undone engine mount, jacked the engine up and changed the belt, cheers guys i owe you one. it then cut out 5 times on the way home >:( ive got the week off so it looks like im gonna be busy ;D
