Only my personal opinion but, i've had 2 VW trikes both rear engine..............never have one again, i just didn't like the way they handled at all.

Not sure if there is an auto gearbox out there that could be made to fit a Reliant motor.

There is the option of a VW engine trike with the engine up front, i have all the info and frame plans  Grin

Apart from that any rear wheel driven car will do the job, i've been collecting plans and info on every type and make of trike for the past 9 years and if i've not got the info then i can normaly find it.

This is what a VW engine up front trike looks like

You could mount a VW engine up to a Renault R30 auto box which is the same layout as the VW gearbox.

Looks good but not the kinda thing I'm after whioch will be more practical than pretty, like my Gertie.

That one, for me, seat too low, bars too high, no big luggage rack, no mudguards.

Why do you say rear-engined, is that cos of the single propshaft?  How do people use mini engines?

Mini engines are normaly rear mounted because the donor car is front wheel drive.

That's a nice looking trike that VW.

I agree with saddlebags though that the pedal positions are always a compromise as the engine is so wide.

Rear engined vw or mini trkes are not built for performance but they look great.

Trike buiding is always a compromise between looks and perfomance.

I'm happy at 60-70mph and looking good! (The trike not me)
