Guys my alternater was loose and i lost battery on a ride back from banbury. the alternater was tightened and no charge was going through it even when tightened, i then changed one wire over on a terminal and charge was flowing well, i rode back to swindon and then some round town stopping at various places with no isuuse restarting and no problems in tourque. I felt like closer i got to home the less well it seemed to be fireing and this morning the battery was flat as flat could be. the battery is fine, i took it out my escort! below is a pic of the alternator. green circles are where the wires were red is where the wires are now cheers guys, toad with it being sunday thought id leave you to it

easy answer the red is a trigger wire ign fed to energise the charging poles should be connected with a light in between the two greens are your charge output and should feed back to the starter solonoid or battery the way you had the wires will drain the battery as its constantly keeping the alt in a polorised state

toad mate, just to clarify, the green circals are wrong and the green are correct, yeah? also does it matter which way the wires go. just jumped the battery with the wires in the red circles and took the trike towards the farm up the road, every thing seems to be fireing ok.... for now.

as toad said, the red pole (Small spade) goes from switched live (through light) while the green (Large spades) are both connected together so you can use ether one or both, one normly goes to the battery live. The earth is through the connection to the engine, so if its loose you dont get any or little charge.

ahhhh right things be falling in to place in my little hamster like mind, the smaller of the 3 is loose fitting as the connector (dont know the real name for it) is the same size as the 2 big ones, guess thats why it was on there, matching the connections to where they fit.
cheers guys, heres to me being able to help others out some day, i am wellllllll versed in traffic and criminal law if any one needs to know anything...

There were several in similar style in magazines such as Street Chopper, back in the 70s. The drawing stye's reminiscent of the legendary Fat Freddie's Cat cartoons, (anyone remember them?). We'll add it to the one already supplied by TBone in the Motors section then. Wiring diagram
